A Level Blog: Set Brief Analysis

Instructions: Discuss the pros and cons of each of the 4 set brief choices. Include some sort of visual component to represent each brief choice. Be sure to include focuses on the equipment needed, the package's difficulty level, my interest in the media form, my knowledge and skill level for each choice, and specific elements I need to learn in order to complete the task.

Option 1: Music Promotion Package

Equipment: Moderate Con

Filming and editing the music video for the major task would prove to be a con because the only equipment I can use to complete this task is using my phone. I can film with my phone camera, and I can edit using the Capcut video editing application, but it would be of low-quality production. Also, possibly music production equipment like instruments and music mixing programs if I were to produce an original song for the music video.

Difficulty: Con

I feel like filming and editing a music video is difficult considering my personal limitations in the equipment department as well as my lack of inspiration. I feel that I have to like the song I choose so that I may make an exceptional MV, and it is difficult to acquire permission from the artists that I listen to so that I may use their songs. The minor task, however, can be easily done using my phone as it is a social media page. I do not know what is included in a digipak for the other minor task though.

Candidate Interest: Moderate Pro

I am very interested in music, so if I were to choose this it would be a fun activity for me.

Knowledge and Skill Level: Moderate Con

I feel that I lack the creativity to be able to come up with a good music video theme. I do, however, know a substantial amount about music promotion as I am an active member of pop culture.

Skills I need to learn to complete the task: Heavy Con

I need cinematography skills, and editing skills, and possibly music production skills if I do not want to use royalty-free music. My skills are not that bad, but I do not believe they would be enough to be able to complete the tasks in the way I want them to turn out.

Option 2: Film Promotion Package

Equipment: Moderate con

Similar to the notion of me creating a music video, I am limited to the use of my phone's camera for all filming. I do have access to free video editing softwares.

Difficulty: Pro

Personally, I believe this task is the easiest to do. I can create a movie poster in Canva, and making a social media page for the film is no trouble. The major task includes 2 film trailers and I feel like I can be successful in creating a successful product for this.

Candidate Interest: Pro

I like watching movie trailers. I do believe they are the most powerful way to market a movie. I feel like it is the best way to encompass the essence of a film without giving away too much.

Knowledge and Skill Level: Pro

I believe I already possess a substantial amount of the skills I need to be able to make a quality film trailer. I am confident that I have good enough video editing skills and creativity to be successful in this package.

Skills I need to learn to complete the task: Pro

I think I only need to work on my cinematography skills. I need to incorporate the essential components of mise-en-scene to ensure that the quality does not equal to the skills of a novice.

Option 3: Documentary Package

Equipment: Moderate con

Again, the only equipment I have for filming and editing is my phone. I consider this a con because the quality of the cinematography may be affected by this.

Difficulty: Heavy con

I consider this one of the most difficult packages because each task is rather heavy. Documentaries require a lot of research and time, so I would need to find an interesting topic to create the documentary about. I would need to request interviews with experts, so they would need to make time for me if I were to include them or even make an effective documentary. Writing a magazine article, for me, would take longer to create compared to the movie poster.

Candidate Interest: Con

I am not very interested in documentaries, so I am not very willing to make one myself. I find them educational, yes, but I do not think I can create a media product that is heavily based on learning. I find that I woud have much more fun while making something more towards the entertainment aspect.

Knowledge and Skill Level: Moderate Pro

I do have good research skills and I believe documentaries are just visual essays with actual visual evidence, plus the quotes from experts. Cinematography only comes into play when displaying the scenes of the documentary's subject, it is not something to worry about while interviewing trusted experts.

Skills I need to learn to complete the task: Con

I would need to learn interviewing skills. I would need to ask effective questions as well as acquire video footage of the subject of the documenatry. Completing this task requires skill in research as well presentation.

Option 4: Short Film Package

Equipment: Moderate con

I do not own a film camera. Professionals in the film industry have have the highest quality eqipment to be able to produce, market, and distribute their intellectual properties. These limitations may affect the quality of my performance for these tasks.

Difficulty: Con

This would be easier compared to the documentary, but more difficult compared to the film promotion package.

Candidate Interest: Moderate pro

I love short films because they always have great themes and messages, especially those created by Disney. I have never considered creating one of my own, but I am not necessarily opposed to doing this package.

Knowledge and Skill Level: Heavy con

I do not beilieve I am creative enough to produce a quality short film. I would need to find actors or maybe animate. I do not possess these skills that is why this is a heavy con.

Skills I need to learn to complete the task: Moderate con

I would either need to learn how to animate or collaborate with my school's theater club so that I have experienced actors. I know how create a postcard advertisement  as well as create a social media page already.
